November 19 Update

We started bargaining today by asking the Administration if they had a response or questions about our Salary and Compensation and our Benefits proposals, which we presented on October 29, 2025. The Administration indicated they had no response or questions and won’t be prepared to address these proposals until next year.

The Administration discussed our Accommodations proposal that we brought on November 5. While we believe it is an important article as it implements a timeline for the Office for University Accessibility to acknowledge bargaining unit members seeking accommodations and to set an initial meeting with them. The Administration is unwilling to negotiate at this time as they believe current processes are sufficient.

The Administration responded to our proposal on Academic Freedom from August 27, 2025 by giving us a much shorter proposal. While supportive of the concept of academic freedom and in agreement that academic freedom is a cornerstone of higher education, the Administration’s team pointed to difficulties with regard to bargaining on this topic in light of the so-called Advance Ohio Higher Education Act. They were very clear that they would not agree to anything that they are not absolutely confident will pass scrutiny in Columbus.

We then moved to caucus where we began to discuss the proposals further.

Our next scheduled negotiating date is December 4 from 1-5 pm at the Baker Center.
